Education at the BSU

The MRC Biostatistics Unit, located in Cambridge, was founded over 30 years ago. Its aims are to advance understanding of the cause, natural history and treatment of disease, and to evaluate public health strategies, through the development of statistical methods and their application to the design, analysis and interpretation of biomedical studies.

University of Cambridge Doctorate Opportunities

Since its establishment, the unit has attracted an increasing number of students who wish to pursue a more intensive research project leading to a PhD or MD. These students are attached to specific research groups within the Institute and the fields of study are diverse, encompassing AIDS prediction, genetic epidemiology, expert diagnostic systems (computer diagnosis) and meta-analysis of epidemiological studies. There are, at present, 15 PhD students supervised by members of the Institute staff.

BSU short courses

The MRC Biostatistics Unit run a number of short courses at the Institute of Public Health. Topics range from courses on Introduction to Bayesian Monte Carlo Methods in WinBUGS software to Practical Use of Multiple Imputation to Handle Missing Data
