Many congratulations to MRC Investigator, Oscar Rueda, on receiving a Cancer Research UK (CRUK) Career Establishment Award.
The CRUK Career Establishment Awards support new group leaders to settle their own research group, helping them to establish an independent cancer research career and build a reputation and influence in their research field. It awards projects based on the quality and originality of the proposed work and its potential for impact in the field.
Using this award, Oscar will develop a dynamic multistate survival model that will integrate many different sources of data. This model will track a breast cancer patient from the moment of diagnosis throughout her full clinical pathway, updating accordingly the predictions when new information becomes available and highlighting patients with a higher risk of relapse. The system will also include a test strategy based on an affordable sequencing assay that, together with the statistical model, will form a prognosis and monitoring system for breast cancer patients that can help making better informed decisions and guide treatment.
The award will also allow Oscar to recruit two additional postdocs and generate new data, increasing ties and collaborations with external collaborators but also with other groups within the BSU, taking advantage of the broad statistical expertise in the Unit.
Oscar said:
I am deeply grateful to CRUK for this award, and to the BSU for the opportunity to develop my research career in such a wonderful environment.”
