Congratulations to Jack Hodgkinson on being awarded the Best Student Talk at the International Society for Computational Biology (ISCB) UK Conference.
The ISCB has emerged as the leading professional society for participants in the field of computational biology and bioinformatics, and organised its first UK based conference this year on 21 and 22 April 2026 in Cambridge. The conference brought together a diverse bioinformatics and computational biology community, to share cutting-edge research, foster collaborations and build networks - featuring keynote lectures, sessions on the latest advances in computational methods and a student-led symposium.
Jack Hodgkinson is an Early Career Research at the BSU, working with Paul Kirk in the Biostatistical Machine Learning theme. Jack gave a talk about his work on "MultiCOCor: identifying multiple clustering structures within high-dimensional data". MultiCOCor, formerly MultiCOCA, is a two-stage method that Jack has been developing for over a year, designed to uncover multiple clustering structures in continuous single-omic and multi-omics datasets. The method separates meaningful molecular signals from unrelated processes to identify feature sets corresponding to disease subtypes.
Jack's fantastic and engaging talk was awarded the Best Student Talk by the organising committee.
Jack said:
"As my first presentation outside of student-led events, this was completely unexpected, but an achievement I am incredibly proud of. A big thank you to the organisers for a fantastic event and the opportunity to present, and a huge congratulations to all the other prize winners and presenters. I look forward to attending more ISCB events in the future!"
