Sofia Villar

Many congratulations to BSU Programme Leader, Sofía Villar, on being nominated for the University of Cambridge Research Culture Award.

This nomination is a recognition of the often-overlooked, yet essential elements of high-quality team research. It's a recognition that aims to go beyond the typical metrics, and highlights the importance of fostering a collaborative, supportive research environment to nurture the next generation of researchers.

Sofía is a Programme Leader in the Efficient Study Design theme, leading a team of researchers who are working to improve clinical trial design through the development of innovative methods that lie in the intersection between optimisation, machine learning and statistics. Sofía is also the Unit's scientific lead on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, working to build a positive and inclusive community. This is a fantastic achievement and recognition of Sofía's outstanding contributions to the research culture both in her research team and the Unit more broadly.

Sofía said:
"I am deeply grateful and moved to receive this recognition, which was put forward by some wonderful researchers  who I have the privilege to work with every day. I would like to share this recognition with my entire team, the Unit, and my family, whose unwavering support has been instrumental in my journey."

On 30th September 2024, the University held its first Research Culture Celebration event at Kettle's Yard, which was co-sponsored by the ARRC Project and the University of Cambridge Institutional Research Culture Steering Committee.
