There was fantastic BSU representation at the International Day of Women in Statistics and Data Science (IDWSDS) on Tuesday 8th October 2024.

IDWSDS is a free virtual 24-hour conference hosted by Caucus for Women in Statisitcs and Data Science (CWSDS), showcasing the amazing women working in statistics and data science and their contributions to the field. It also provides an opportunity to connect with female statisticians and data scientists from all over the world and helps to promote inclusivity and diversity across this crucial area of research.

This year, several early career researchers and students from the BSU presented at the conference - Mia Tackney, Rajenki Das, Bethany Heath, Xijin Chen, Juliette Limozin and Nina Deliu, covering topics including; Eight Methodological Questions for bringing Digital Outcome Measures into Clinical Trials (MT), Implementing Bayesian Response Adaptive Randomisation in a Rare Disease Setting (RD), Evaluating pooled testing designs in community and healthcare settings for epidemics (BH), Using ctDNA as a novel biomarker of efficacy for dose-finding designs in oncology (XC), Inference procedures in sequential trial emulation with survival outcomes: comparing confidence intervals based on the sandwich variance estimator, bootstrap and jackknife (JL), and A Novel Vaild Test Statistics for Conducting Hypothesis Testing in Response-Adaptive Designs (ND).

In addtion to these fantastic contributions, the BSU was also a proud Silver sponsor of the event.

BSU Programme Leader, Sofia Villar, who chaired two sessions, said:

"It was a real pleasure to be part of this conference. The enthusiasm, generosity and professionalism of these brilliant female researchers was unmatched. It feels great to be part of the incredible growth this conference has seen in 2024."

PhD student, Xijin Chen, said:

"It was incredibly inspiring to witness the brilliant work of these talented women in statistics. I am honoured to have contributed to this remarkable conference."

PhD student, Bethany Heath added:

"It was amazing to be involved in this conference that highlights the stellar contributions of women to statistics. It was a pleasure to be able to attend the talk as well as to give my own."
